Consumers these days look for ways to get instant gratification. In fact, over 49% of consumers would only shop online if the website offers a same day delivery service. The faster their order gets processed, shipped, and delivered, the sooner they can enjoy them, and the happier they are with the brand they purchased from.

This is most likely why 60% of consumers in the United States say that they are willing to pay for additional charges to receive their package sooner. On the other hand, there are also consumers who are eager to meet the minimum amount required to avail of free shipping. Either way, they’d still pay more than what they originally intended to.

If a company offers non-perishable goods such as clothes, gadgets, kitchenware, appliances, etc., a next day delivery service should be no problem. But for businesses that sell perishable and time-sensitive goods such as fast food, pastries, coffee, and groceries, same-day delivery service is a better option.

While both same day and next day delivery offer faster shipping services, there are still key differences that businesses need to look deeper into before choosing which to implement in their business.

Take collection time or schedule, for example. Next day delivery services give couriers sufficient time to pick up packages and schedule their deliveries for the day to meet the estimated time and date of arrival indicated on the order details.

Next-day delivery provides more leeway than same-day delivery since there’s no pressure to get the orders processed, transported, and delivered the same day. Companies that offer this type of courier service usually hold regular office hours, from 9 AM to 6 PM during weekdays.

As for same day delivery services, companies have an earlier cut-off, depending on the shipping address. Since most cut-off periods end at noon, couriers have enough time to fulfill deliveries for the rest of the day.

Fast delivery services come with many advantages, but there are also several challenges to overcome. For example, while a same-day delivery service requires little waiting time, it is more expensive and contains a higher risk of delay. The same thing goes for a next day delivery service. While it offers better flexibility and is more cost-effective, the return process is longer, and customers would have to sleep on it before receiving their package.

While both have their pros and cons, it’s essential for businesses to very carefully examine each one before choosing which courier service to integrate into a shopping experience. Whatever decision you end up with, you must not only aim to satisfy customers but also keep the company’s financial health in its optimum state.

So, make sure that you have the workforce, the logistics, and the resources for quick delivery services. The goal is not just to make your customers happy, but to raise profit as well.
